With the ideal of providing quality English medium education to children from all walks of life, with special focus on children from underprivileged backgrounds, Dr Reddy's Foundation came up with the concept of Pudami schools. The schools started in the academic year of 2007 and comprise of 27 primaries and 4 big schools (called Neighborhood Schools). These 31 schools, all located in Ranga Reddy district – some within the urban area, some sub-urban and several rural – now have a combined strength of close to 10,000 children. The schools are supported by Dr Reddy's Foundation and hence have an inbuilt fee subsidy that is extended to all children, irrespective of their economic background. An additional subsidy is offered to deserving children who come from economically weaker sections, single parent households and the like.
